MDRC is seeking a Technical Research Assistant to join our
K-12 education policy group in the New York office. The successful candidate will work under the guidance and supervision of an interdisciplinary research team and contribute to research aimed at improving the education of students in low-performing elementary and secondary schools. Our research includes demonstrations and rigorous evaluations of interventions related to early-grade reading curricula, teacher professional development, after-school programs, high school reforms, and district-wide policy initiatives.
Technical researchers help MDRC maintain the highest standards of data quality and integrity. Technical research assistants convert data files received in a variety of formats to a form that is useful for answering research questions. Technical researchers often participate actively in quantitative analyses and contribute to new methodological advances.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for the technical research assistant position include a range of technical and nontechnical skills. SAS computer programming, data collection and cleaning will be a significant part of the job. In addition, the technical research assistant may participate in report coordination, documentation, literature searches, and memo writing, as well as work with research sites.

Candidates should have a BA/BS in mathematics, statistics, economics, education, public policy, psychology, sociology, or related field. Candidates must be organized, comfortable working against deadlines, and able to pay careful attention to detail.
